Mama Denise
As a few of my blogs have outlined, I am a die-hard nutmeg-er and a loyal Channel 3 viewer/employee/spokesperson.
I remember growing up in the townhouse my mother owned on the outskirts of town...Simsbury town that is....and crowding around a small television in the kitchen watching WFSB before school and during dinner.
I think maybe that is when I should have realized that I was going to eventually work in TV, but instead I was hell bent on making ice cream, working in college atheletics and completely denying any form of an idea that I would work in television.
I remember watching my mother cook dinner, usually Mac and Cheese because I was a SUPER picky eater, and watching Bruce, Denise and Dennis every night while chowing down on a mean bowl of Annie's White Chedder Mac.
I remember the old studio, walking down in Constitution Plaza during Christmas time to see the lights and admiring everything about Denise D'Ascenzo.
Denise D'Ascenzo is a women with more class than every queen in the world put together. Denise is the mother of newsroom and the "TV Wife" to Dennis.
I would watch her present the nightly newscast in such a way that I was entranced by her delivery, her presence, her flawless hair and impeccable style.
It wouldn't be until many years later that I would be lucky enough to call Denise a fellow collegeue.
Since starting at WFSB Denise has taken the time to get to know me, discuss her daughter/family and we have even established a relationship over something, or let me say...a family.
I am not sure she wants to the world to know...but Denise D'Ascenzo...a seven-time Emmy award winning broadcast journalist...is a HUGE fan of "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo".
The shared interest of the Boo Boo family came about recently when I disclosed my sheer delight when Mama June followed me on Twitter
That day at work I made sure to tell everyone and their mother that Mama June had followed me and with that, Denise and I cemented our friendship in the Hall of Fame of Friendships.
We now exchange emails regularly about the show.
Last Friday I placed a jolly picture of Mama June on her desk so she could get a good laugh.
So when people tell you, dreams come true, they really mean it, I went from eating dinner and watching Eyewitness News at 5pm to now living inside the epicenter of the newsroom and sharing a common intrest with Connecticuts #1 News Anchor/Queen...Dreams DO come true.
