The Gift That Kept on Giving

After working at WFSB for two and a half years I have learned quite a few things, but the one thing I have learned is that you need to be able to take a joke...and that is what today's blog is about.

On the "hexagon" (the assignment desk nickname for my new followers) we have double-screen computers so we have a better work flow and can easily juggle multiple screens at once.

Assignment editors are constantly juggling multiple things and often are running around the newsroom or running to the ice cream truck when it comes.

Over the last few months I started to notice that when I would leave my desk, I would return and both computer monitors would be off.

This was happening to me a lot, I don't have an exact number of times it happened but it was occurring often enough that I just accepted the fact that the computers hated my existence and would turn off any chance they got.

Please Note: When I left the screens would be up and fully functioning. (not sure why I am justifying this)

I figured when I was pushing my chair back from my desk I was hitting some sort of cord connecting the monitors causing the screens to black out.

I often thought maybe my feet were hitting the power strip on the floor while I was rolling backwards to leave the desk to heckle a fellow employee.

I also thought I might be loosing my marbles... I truly thought my mind, at my ripe age of 24, was starting to go.

But I started thinking...it wouldn't matter what computer I was sitting at, whether it would be the one on the "hexagon" to the left hand side or to the right... the screens would just turned off.

Most recently, Wednesday afternoon sometime, I walked away from my computer to talk to our Media Manager and upon my return both screens were off.

But as always... I proceeded to "Kept Calm and Turn Them Back On".

I truly just figured it was the Channel 3 ghosts at it again...haunting my computer and me as they constantly do...

But Thursday night the truth was revealed...the restless nights believing I was starting to go off the deep end...the nights wondering if the WFSB goblins were going to follow me home... all came to an end...

As it turns out...my co-worker Steven has been screwing with me...for months.

Sources tell me he would see me get up from my desk and quickly and swiftly race up to the computer I was working on and turn off the monitors before I returned.

One source informed me there were times he would be a mere 2 seconds behind me turning off the screens... true athletic stamina on his part.

I was informed that in sheer giddy pleasure he would watch from the web desk as I returned, slamming my computer mouse, pushing keys and eventually realizing the monitors were off.

I am not sure how long this has been going on but easily it has be quite a few months.

Touche Steven...Touche....

I am sure another extended period of time prank will be pulled again...

But in the mean time...
