Run Forest Run!!

Well...I guess it's time to officially announce some big news...

First, Drake dropped a new album overnight and I am personally glowing and you should go download it...

Second... this week my mother and I were told some big news... If you don't know, I enjoy running, not because I am super fast and can run like the wind, but because I can run and somehow survive and can run moderately long distances... I will get there slowly but I will get there...anyway...

I think this story starts about 5 years ago when my best friend Rachel asked me to go out on a run, and I think my initial response was something along the lines of "Go away, I am going to die, that won't be happening, can we go to happy hour instead?".  Maybe Rachel knew something I didn't but that day we went for a run and somehow I pushed out two miles, I am sure my time was something to alert the Guinness World Record Books for the "Slowest Split Mile Time Ever" but for me, I ran two miles, which is about 10560 more feet than I ever thought I could run at once.  From there I went on to run my first EVER 5K at the Red Dress Run in West Hartford on July 11th, 2009 through the Hartford Marathon Foundation.  Since than, I have completed 50 races, which is halfway to my goal of 100.

I won't bore with you will all the types of races I have ran since that life changing two mile run, but they have been everywhere from 5Ks, 10Ks, 3 Ragnar Relays, and my first, Half Marathon and many other types of races.

When I saw the call for "Team HMF 2015" applications in January the Hartford Marathon Foundation was looking "for passionate, inspiring and motivating runners to represent HMF and serve as ambassadors of our mission".  I looked at the application and asked my mom what she thought about it, well needless to say my mother thought the idea was great and applied for a spot right on the spot...or well on the couch with me hovering over her thinking "well I guess I will apply now too..

Over the last couple weeks I had some quick thoughts of "I wonder if I will be accepted, what if my Mom gets a spot  because she is super athletic and in much better shape than me..."

Well, this week, all my worried faded away because my mother and I were selected as members of Team HMF 2015...but what is even more amazing... we were selected as the first-ever mother-daughter teammates!

I couldn't be more happy to share this year running around New England (and maybe find an excuse to run in Florida/California) with my mom.  My mom is the most amazing person I know, she motivates me, humbles me, challenges me and makes me a better person, and there is no one else I would rather be on Team HMF with. (I love you, Mom!)

  1. I cannot tell you in words how soooo proud I am of you and the beautiful person you are from the inside out. I remember the days when the idea of running was like putting brussel sprouts on your plate. You thought it was I was nuts and obnoxious. Now we are a Mother/Daughter team for the HMF and the best part, you love brussel sprouts too. I love you my little bird. xoxoxo Mother Bird
