Alexander Graham Bell
For the last few days I was trying to figure out what my post should be about this week. I didn't want to force a post, I didn't want to post AGAIN about Rob and I sure as heck didn't want to post about the boot camp torture I am recommitting to next week (that will be a post soon enough though).
I have been racking my brain for a few days on what to post, which tidbits of my newsroom day should I forever cement into a blog post with some funny pictures for the social media world to see?
The answer was staring at me right in the eye...or well...to be honest...it was talking in my ear.
Everyday I answer about 14587 calls...that is just a rough estimate. The calls are either really simple, or something way beyond my pay grade. And let me tell you, most of the time, they are way beyond my pay grade.
Usually on the other end is a reporter looking for some sort of assistance, some type of media relations person hoping to book the next big star on one of our shows, or a concerned viewer.
But let me clarify, there are a few different types of concerned viewers, and this is where my job gets really fun.
For example, today, I already talked to my two favorite viewers who call for the Play3 & Play4 lotto numbers.
One of them cuts right to the chase "Any doubles"? But my other viewer, likes to get the lotto numbers, and also try to secure a marriage when he wins the jackpot. If my love life ever needs a boost, he has promised me a date, a tropical island getaway and a new car if he ever hits it big. I will remember that mystery caller.
I always treat every phone call like it is the breaking news story of the year, even if it is the elderly man who called me today because his remote stopped working. He sounded really nice and just wanted to be able to watch the news, but I really can't fix something like that. I told him to try out a new set of batteries and quite possibly get a new remote. I am hoping he will be tuning in tonight at 11pm.
Now, my post is titled, Alexander Graham Bell. Why? Because he invented the telephone...the vain of my existence some days, the ring I hear in my sleep, and the reason why I love my job. And because of him, I have a slight bend in my neck from talking on it so damn much.
